Ceridwen, Lady of the Myths

 

Named after the goddess of Poetry, this Welsh woman of the 16th century revives as carefully as she can whilst risking her life, the old myths of the Celts. Not only that but manages to actually meet some of the old gods and goddesses and is given the chance to find lost books and stories whilst avoiding the church and its belief in killing witches and anyone who doesn't 'conform'. She is even given a baby dragon by a goddess Played out across Wales and even a trip to Ireland, where she falls in love with an Irishman who then tries to set the church after her causing her to return 2 Wales sooner than expected. However before leaving Ireland she discovers a hidden book hundreds of years old. But that in itself allows her to find more clues meet Merlin and finally sends her 433 years back in time to the Battle of Hastings in southern England. History is saved by her actions but her life faces the ultimate test and price. Is it worth it, and what of her life and future? Only time and reading will answer that.

In the early part of the 16th century she contrives to have a child which the old gods did not approve of. Ceridwen the story-teller, also has some powers with spells, but fighting the old Celtic gods proves difficult. But they provide her with clues that unravel many secrets, some of which have lasted a thousand years waiting for her to find and unravel them. This time she explores more of Wales but also travels to Scotland more than once. Besides more encounters with Merlin, she comes across a Knight of the Round Table who would like to talk to 'Nessy'. But more important matters come into play when a goddess is kidnapped and Ceridwen's own life is placed in danger. Love also raises it's head more than once and family secrets affect more than one family. Just who can be trusted, and who created the Sword for Sion? Who was it that met her on the mountain top? Intrigue is the norm, and it spills over into the next novel, 'Merlin and Ceridwen'.

Life of a Welsh woman who is a story-teller in the form of the ancient Celtics who travels around Wales in the 16th Century and Ireland reviving and saving the ancient Myths of the Celts. Avoiding the church becomes part of her survival. She also adds new stories and actually gets to meet some of the old gods and goddesses. She spends more time with Merlin, finding out about his life. He introduces her to an Irish Knight of the Round Table and battles a dragon, makes a strange discovery and is reunited once more with her sister. Despite a warning, she comes across the English Queen Catherine of Aragon and finds herself defending King Henry VIII almost to her disgust. Then she has to fulfil her own destiny and finds herself in the 3rd century facing a Roman Centurion. Meanwhile her son's ability as a Seer continues to grow, they battle demons and follow clues to a sad event in Scotland. In the end Ceridwen gets what she wants but hadn't planned, and yet Merlin gets the last say.
